Volunteering

Thanks to all the wonderful SY23 WCSS volunteers and chaperones!  We couldn't do it without you.  WCSS will no longer be issuing any long-term volunteer/chaperone badges for the school year 2022-2023.  Please check back in late July for instructions on how to obtain a long-term volunteer badge for school year 2023-2024.

Note: daily volunteer/chaperone badges will be available at the school office (see Option #1 for details).

At White County School System, we believe that education is a community effort. Together, we can strengthen our community, broaden our support network, and make a difference in the lives of our students. We are grateful for your support and encouragement, as we continue to work together for the students of WCSS.

How to become a WCSS Volunteer

First, talk with the school office, athletic, or club trip sponsor to be sure there is a need for volunteers/chaperones. Choose an option, then follow these easy steps:

Option #1 Are you looking to be a short-term volunteer (visiting schools at most 2-3 times a year) or maybe chaperone one daytime field trip? If so, follow these steps below. If not, go to option #2.

  1. Complete Mandated Reporting Module
  2. Verification/Background Check (at school)
  3. Pick-up Sticker Badge at School at the time of the field trip

Option #2 Are you planning on volunteering regularly (weekly, monthly, or several days per month) or do you plan on regularly chaperoning school day field trips or athletic/club events? If so, follow these steps below. If overnight trip/event, go to option #3.

  1. Complete Mandated Reporting Module
  2. Complete Long-term Badge Request
  3. ID Verification/Background Check (at School)
  4. Pick Up a Badge at the School you listed on the Badge Request Form

Option #3 Do you plan on chaperoning an OVERNIGHT field trip or an athletic/club OVERNIGHT event? If so, follow these easy steps:

  1. Complete Mandated Reporting Module
  2. Complete Long-term Badge Request
  3. ID Verification/Background Check (at School)
  4. A Criminal Background Check through the Sheriff’s Department; Chaperone is responsible for payment to the Sheriff's Department
  5. Pick Up a Badge at the School you listed on the Badge Request Form

Final Step: Once you complete the requirements listed, present your ID to the school office (along with a criminal background for overnight chaperones) and they will take it from here.
