Assessment

The Georgia Department of Education provides a comprehensive system of both formative and summative assessments designed to work together to improve teaching and learning. These assessments provide meaningful data that help educators, leaders, families, and policymakers make informed decisions to support student success. Different stakeholders need different data—the right data—to meet their needs. For example, classroom teachers need detailed, real-time data to inform their instruction, while leaders and policymakers rely on aggregated, high-level data to guide program and policy decisions.

White County students participate in a combination of classroom and standardized assessments throughout the year. Classroom assessments are aligned with the Georgia Standards of Excellence and provide ongoing feedback about student progress toward mastery of grade-level expectations. Standardized assessments offer a broader measure of achievement and growth, assisting in determining each student’s overall academic performance.

The standardized assessments administered in White County include Criterion-Referenced Tests, Ability and Achievement Tests, and Norm-Referenced Tests. Together, these measures provide a balanced approach to assessment and accountability—offering valuable data at the classroom, school, district, and state levels to inform continuous improvement efforts and strengthen teaching and learning across the district.
